“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

— Aaron Siskind

The story behind "48 Be Visual | Magazine"

At the age of 48, hence the 48 in our title, my life took an unexpected turn! To be more precise, my journey as a photographer started to evolve and become more than a simple hobby. It was my passion. My own expressive outlet and a chance to create. I was consumed by the beauty and intoxicated with the idea of creating these amazing images. So, logically, I thought about making things official, getting a diploma, and seeking out various ways to become published.

I had a goal and I was consumed. I wanted it all. However, I wanted more than just to be published, I wanted to be part of a community of creators and artists, and the more I thought of my artistic endeavors, the more it dawned on me that I needed to investigate opportunities that were available for emerging photographers.

While I did stumble across countless opportunities for “emerging photographers” I quickly came to realize that the word “emerging” was more often than not synonymous with “young”. I was no longer in that particular age bracket and felt disconnected, so I did what needed to be done. I created.

The aim of "48 Be Visual | Magazine" was always clear to me. I created a place where “emerging” and aspiring photographers can foster and support each other, along with an extraordinary mix of talented established photographers. Particularly lensmen who just happen to be 45 years or older.

While we accept submissions from both new and established artists over the age of 45, we do not want to totally exclude younger talent, so, there will be ample opportunity for guest photographers of all ages to submit.

FAQ:

Themes

In general, there will be theme specific submission guidelines, but “48 Be Visual | Magazine” is ultimately designed to be an open theme magazine, allowing for flexibility and creative freedom. Along with various themes, there are already plans to have “Special Edition’s”, which will have a more specific focus. I.E.; stricter themes, techniques, and styles.

Deadlines

As a quarterly magazine of 50-60 pages, deadlines will be content-driven and offer unique flexibility, which is designed to accommodate those “emerging” photographers who may seek out peer advice or consultation from the community prior to submission.
